I picked up a box of these Magtach 10mm rounds on my latest shopping adventure through SG Ammo. The price was $15.95 before shipping for 50 rounds. An affordable 180gr JHP at 1200fps for that price sound like a great deal, If it performs. I previously tested the S&B 180gr and while it did well, it came in way under it’s advertised velocity. This ammo, while under it’s advertised velocity, was very close and only missed the mark by 29fps. My only complaint, if I had one, it it’s a little on the flashy side.
I got a five-shot average velocity of 1188fps with a high of 1193fps and a low of 1175fps.
The first round shot into the bare gel had a velocity of 1197fps and penetrated to 12 inches. The recovered diameter was .78 inches and the recovered weight was 179.1 grains. The second round’s velocity was 1195fps and its penetration was 12.5 inches. The recovered diameter was .74 inches and the recovered weight was 178.5 grains.
Now for the two rounds shot through the heavy clothing. I was not able to get the velocity on the two rounds. The first round penetrated to 17.75 inches and expanded to .66 inches. The recovered weight was 172.8 grains. Round number two also expanded to .66 inches and had a recovered weight of 179 grains with a penetration depth of 16 inches.
