I thought this would be the last .30 Supper Carry test, but Federal’s announcement of the new .30 in their punch line of ammunition has changed that. I will grab a box whenever Federal has one available and try it. Until then, I have turned this into me EDC pistol. Before this, I was carrying a first gen M&P Shield in 9mm, and it turns out this pistol works with my holster and TLR-6 light I was using with the 9mm.

This pistol round checks all the boxes as far as gel test are concerned. All the tested ammo passed with good expansion and excellent penetration. But will it be enough to take some of the market share from the 9mm to stay alive? Hopefully, with SHOT show starting tomorrow, we will see something new.  Maybe Winchester will jump into the pool, and a new pistol manufacture would be nice.

The five shot average was 1170 fps with a low of 1161 fps and a high of 1178 fps with an extreme spread of 17 fps. Point of aim at 10 yards was pretty good, except for the one flyer and shooting a little to the left.

The second round went 15 inches in the gel block and expanded to .52 by .50 inches. Impact velocity was 1181 fps and recovered weight was 100.6 grains.

Through the heavy clothing covered gel, round one’s velocity was 1187 fps and it penetrated 15.25 inches. The recovered expansion was .49 by .48 inches and its weight was 100.9 grains.

The second round through the clothing penetrated 16 inches and had a recovered weight of 100.5 grains. The projectile expanded to .49 by .48 inches and the velocity was 1178 fps.
